Structure

The Director of the Institute for Learning Sciences and Technology will be Bijan Gillani who received his doctorate from the University of Southern California in Curriculum and Technology. Currently he is a professor of Educational Technology at the California State University, East Bay. Professor Gillani is the Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Educational Technology Leadership and teaches courses in “Learning Theories and the Design of E-learning Environments,” “Web-based Instruction,” “Instructional Content Development,” Educational Interface Design,” and “Human-Computer Interaction.” He has established three graduate programs in Educational Technology Leadership, Multimedia, and Online Teaching and Learning for the California State University, East Bay. He was also the Director of two grants for the integration of technology into curriculum. He has been a keynote speaker and presenter at conferences on the integration of multimedia in education and e-learning and has consulted for public and private agencies and educational institutions. He worked very closely with NASA Ames to design and develop an educational Web site (e.g. Astro-Venture). Most recently, he was the keynote speaker at the Information Literacy Conference, presented at the IBM Interface Design Conference at the IBM Research Center in New York and San Jose, ITiRA Conference at Central Queensland University, Australia, and the California Science Teacher Association. He is a prolific author in the field of learning sciences and technology. His recent publications include over fifteen papers in professional journals and books, and he has published a book entitled Learning Theories and the Design of E-Learning Environments .
